Anotherway: Simple Ways to Make a Big Difference

Perfectionism is Imperfection
My girlfriend is a perfectionist. She will spend hours working on something to fix every little detail and to eliminate every annoyance, no matter how small. Without a doubt any client who pays her a fixed price for her work will be delighted with the outcome, but if she relied on the money to eat she would starve.
Over 100 years ago an Italian named Vilfredo Pareto noticed that 80% of the land in the country belonged to 20% of the population and that 20% of the pea pods in his garden yielded 80% of the peas. He realized this generalization is repeated over and over throughout our daily lives.
Best of all it can be exploited. Once we realize which 20% of the work we do brings 80% of the benefits we can focus on doing only this work. For example, if, during fitness training, 5 repetitions of an exercise is sufficient to trigger most of the muscle growth, why expend all your energy performing 25 repetitions to get a little extra growth on that muscle? Better to perform 5 different exercises with 5 repetitions each and grow each of these 5 muscle groups 80% of their potential.
In all aspects of life our resources are limited. We can expend them wisely to gain many benefits for ourselves or we can use them all up without thinking with little to show for our efforts.
This realization prompted me to start a blog called Anotherway which brings to your attention things which most people never consider, but in hindsight are blindingly obvious. Best of all, when you free up resources, be they time or money, you can use them toward other purposes and apply the 80/20 rule all over again. In no time you will be wondering why you went through life wasting your time and money or spending 16 hours a day breaking your back for someone else.
Every day at Anotherway we make one or 2 posts and discover more ways to make life cheaper, healthier and better. Come and see what we have to offer!
